Brick workout

A brick workout combines two triathlon disciplines back to back with little or no break, most often a bike ride followed immediately by a run. It trains your legs to run well on bike-fatigued muscles and lets you practise transitions.

Why bricks matter

Running straight off the bike feels heavy and uncoordinated at first — the name is often said to come from legs that feel like bricks. Regular bricks make that feeling shorter and teach you to pace the first kilometres of the run without going out too fast.

Example bricks

A beginner brick: 45 minutes easy on the bike, then 10–15 minutes easy running. A race-specific brick: a longer ride with the last part at race effort, followed by 20–30 minutes at race pace. Once a week in the build phase is a common rhythm.

In The Next Race

Bricks are a weekly session in The Next Race's triathlon plans, and they go to your Garmin as one multisport workout.
