Duplicate Training Plans: Copy, Customize, and Reuse Your Best Workouts

by The Next Race

One Plan, Many Seasons

You've spent weeks building the perfect marathon plan. The taper is dialed in, the long runs progress just right, and the race-day simulation workouts are exactly where they need to be. Now you're staring at your calendar wondering: Do I really have to rebuild this from scratch for next year?

You don't. As of today, The Next Race supports duplicating training plans—and it's built to save you time without sacrificing flexibility.

What Duplication Does

When you duplicate a training plan, you get a full copy under your account:

  • All workouts — Every session, interval, and recovery day is preserved
  • All races — Your target events come along for the ride
  • Smart date shifting — Optionally set a new start date and we shift everything automatically

No more copy-pasting workouts one by one. No more manual date math. One click, and you're ready to tweak.

How to Duplicate a Plan

If you own the plan: Use the plan menu (three dots or right-click) and choose Duplicate. You'll see a dialog where you can:

  1. Name the new plan — Defaults to "Copy of [original title]" but you can call it whatever you want
  2. Set a new start date (optional) — Pick when you want the plan to begin; we'll shift all workouts and races accordingly

If someone shared a plan with you: You can duplicate it only if they've enabled "Allow others to duplicate this plan" in the share settings. Plan owners control this—so if you're sharing a template or a favorite plan, flip that toggle to let others copy it.

Why We Built This

Athletes repeat what works. A marathon plan that got you to the finish line strong is worth reusing. So is a triathlon build that felt balanced, or a 10K block that produced a PR.

Duplication lets you:

  • Reuse successful plans — Same structure, new dates
  • Create variations — Duplicate, then adjust intensity or volume
  • Share templates — Coaches and clubs can share plans that others can copy and personalize
  • Experiment safely — Try "what if" scenarios without touching the original

Try It Out

Duplicate any plan from the plan list or from within a plan's menu. Set your new start date, give it a name, and you're off.
